Fit Testing PPE
This is what's called a "fit test" for personal protective equipment (PPE). This test ensures that a technician's protective respirator mask fits properly and won't allow the tech to breath in anything harmful while on the job. The way the test works is, the tech puts on a mask, a containment hood is placed over their head and then a mist with a strong odor/taste is sprayed into the hood. The technician then goes through a series of exercises to see if they can taste anything. If they can, their mask must be refit. If they can't their mask is safe! Thanks to Beki and Elaine of the SERVPRO West Brown County team for doing this demonstration!
